Around 65 years ago - on August 06, 1945 8:15 a.m. - this "Little Boy" landed in Hiroshima, Japan. Yes, you guessed it right!! I am talking about the world's first ever nuclear attack.
The world has come a long way since then but it does not seem to have learnt anything from Hiroshima. Even after witnessing the horrible devastation at Hiroshima, the United States went ahead and dropped another nuclear bomb, stronger than the previous one at Nagasaki on August 09, 1945. Were the American leaders so numb that the destruction at Hiroshima and the stories of excruciating pain of thousands of innocent Japanese citizens did not force them to think over the second bombing mission again?
The picture has not changed too much even today. After the United States, countries like Russia (former Soviet Union), the United Kingdom, France and China have acquired nuclear weapons. India, Pakistan and North Korea followed them. Almost all major countries are involved in this nuclear weapon game by one way or the other.
Considering the increasing tension between North and South Korea, the war-prone triangle of India-Pakistan-China, unstable Iraq-Afghanistan and many other countries in the world that can be heaven to terrorists, the nuclear threat has grown up many folds over the years. One can not imagine the consequences of these nuclear weapons falling in wrong hands.
We as the common people through out the world can only pray for the best. Let us pray today for the victims of Hiroshima. May their souls rest in peace.....
